Studies of advertising and information activities in the tourism industry of the Republic of Armenia, conducted by the Faculty of Socio-Cultural Service and Tourism of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, revealed the absence of any scientific and educational base in the field of advertising in Armenia. Not a single Armenian university has trained specialists in advertising, while the leading universities in Russia, as well as Europe and the United States have long had a solid educational base in this specialty.
Serious preparatory work carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Socio-Cultural Service and Tourism Kevorkova N.I. allowed the university to obtain an authorization from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in 2007 to organize training in the specialty "Advertising" at RAU (five-year training, qualification of a graduate - specialist in advertising). In 2010, there was a transition to a two-level system of education and the first students in the specialty "Advertising and PR" were admitted to the bachelor's program. To this day, RAU is the only university in Armenia where educational activities are carried out in the field of "Advertising".
From 2007 to 2012, the direction of "Advertising" was under the jurisdiction of the Department of Service Industry and Tourism of the Faculty of Tourism and Advertising, then a new department of "Advertising and PR" was opened within the framework of the Institute of Media, Advertising and Cinema, which was created at RAU in 2012.
In 2012, N.I. Kevorkova was appointed Director of the Institute of Media, Advertising and Cinema, combining this position with the head of the Department of Advertising and PR.
Over the years, the contribution of Nina Kevorkova to the development of the civilized advertising market of the republic became obvious. Graduates of the "Advertising" program were in great demand in the advertising industry of the Republic of Armenia.
The department created areas of mutually beneficial cooperation with leading enterprises of the advertising business, where students of the direction underwent internship. Cooperation with the Advertising Council of Armenia has also been fruitful.
In 2015, the department changed its name and became known as the Department of Creative Industries, and in 2018, the head of the department was Ph.D. in Psychology, Associate Professor Elina Asriyan, who contributed to the work of the department and became the head of the first master's program "Strategic Communications in Advertising and PR".
In 2019, Nune Vardanyan, Ph.D. in Psychology, a graduate of the Russian-Armenian University, a young scientist with interesting and creative thinking, who began to introduce modern trends of asynchronous learning into the work of the department, was elected head of the Chair of Creative Industries of RAU, which gave the department a new round of development. This work was successfully continued by Yulia Biyagova. And in 2023, Nina Kevorkova was appointed head of the department.
